Programs & How We Support the Community

The McKenzie Community Land Trust (MCLT) is working to support the entire McKenzie River Valley reaching from the upper river community of McKenzie Bridge and on downstream to Springfield, Oregon.

Affordable Housing:
After the wildfire we have seen the need for affordable housing in the McKenzie Valley increase significantly with only 38% of the lost homes rebuilt three and a half years later and a cost increase of 40% to rebuild a home compared to pre-fire costs.  With MCLT's help, families can apply to purchase the homes and the MCLT will continue to own the land, making it affordable.  Our development partner DevNW, has built community land trust neighborhoods across the state of Oregon.

The MCLT's first affordable housing project, the Rose Street Project, is in the rural, unincorporated town of Blue River which was devastated by the Holiday Farm Fire of 2020.

Community Development:
Using the land trust model, the MCLT can also assist with commercial development and other public benefit projects.  As we work together to rebuild, we need a diverse community that offers housing for everyone, community services and parks, locally owned businesses, and a healthy environment.  We are nimble and open to considering new community benefit opportunities where we might be able to help.
